Depending on the size of your shed you might not need a permit, but it is always a good thing to look into it. You should also make calls to your local phone, cable, electric, and gas and water companies to make sure that they don’t have any lines running under the area where you want to build. If they do, you need to figure out another place to put it so that it won’t get damaged or need to be moved if those companies need to come in and do repairs on the lines in the future.
Your third step will be to decide what materials you will be using and purchase them. The materials you purchase will depend on how “green” or “not green” you decide to go. Going green is a great thing to think about, especially when you are building something like this. If this is something that interests you then you should look into purchasing reclaimed or recycled lumber. You might be able to find some building suppliers in your area that specialize in that kind of lumber. You will need to figure out if you want a wood floor or a cement pad as flooring. If you use wood, you will need to waterproof it as well as the wood you used for the walls and roof. If you insulate your shed it will help to keep it warmer in the winter and cooler in the summer which will help to protect what you store in it
